What we do

What suspension repair includes

Knocking, humming and bouncing can come from different suspension parts. That is why we start with an inspection on the lift: we look for worn parts, play and leaks. We also check the suspension as part of full car diagnostics.

Shock absorbers and springs

We replace shock absorbers and springs. We recommend replacing shock absorbers in pairs on one axle, so that the car behaves the same on both sides.

Control arms, ball joints and bushings

We replace control arms, ball joints and rubber bushings. When they wear, they cause knocking, play and uneven tire wear.

Anti-roll bar

We replace anti-roll bar links and bushings. Worn links are a common cause of knocking over bumps.

Wheel bearings

We replace wheel bearings. A worn bearing hums, and the hum gets louder as the speed rises.

Warning signs

When your suspension needs repair

Book a suspension check if you notice any of the signs below. A worn part speeds up the wear of the parts next to it, so it is best not to put off the repair.

Knocking over bumps. A dull or metallic knock when driving over potholes and speed bumps.

Humming while driving. The hum gets louder as the speed rises — a common sign of a worn wheel bearing.

The body keeps bouncing. After a bump the car bounces for a long time, and the nose dives when braking.

The car pulls to one side. On a straight road it drifts off line, and the steering wheel is off-center.

Uneven tire wear. The tires wear on one edge or in patches.

Leaking shock absorber. There are oil marks on the shock absorber body.

Good to know

Suspension and wheel angles

The suspension holds the wheels in the right position relative to the body and the road. Handling, stability and tire wear all depend on its condition.

After control arms, ball joints, bushings or shock absorbers are replaced, the wheel angles may change. That is why we recommend:

  • having a 3D wheel alignment after a suspension repair;
  • replacing shock absorbers and springs in pairs on one axle;
  • not putting off a suspension check if you hear knocking or humming.

When the repair cannot wait

Book a repair as soon as possible if:

  • there is heavy knocking or play in the steering;
  • the car pulls noticeably to one side;
  • the hum from a wheel gets louder day by day.

A worn suspension makes the car less stable and harder to control, especially at speed and when braking.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about suspension repair

How much does suspension repair cost?

Work is charged at an hourly rate, and current prices are on the Prices page. The final cost depends on which parts are worn, so we agree the estimate after the diagnostics.

Why does my suspension knock?

Most often because of worn anti-roll bar links and bushings, ball joints, control arm bushings or shock absorbers. We find the exact cause during the inspection on the lift.

How do I know my shock absorbers need replacing?

The car keeps bouncing after bumps, the nose dives when braking, and there are oil marks on the shock absorber body.

Do I need a wheel alignment after a suspension repair?

After control arms, ball joints, bushings or shock absorbers are replaced, the wheel angles may change. That is why we recommend a 3D wheel alignment after the repair.

Can I drive with a humming wheel bearing?

Only for a short time: the bearing keeps wearing, and the wheel may develop play. Book a repair as soon as possible.

Which cars do you work on?

Cars and minibuses of all makes. Our main focus is Citroën, Peugeot, Renault, Dacia, Ford and Volvo.
