What is included

What car maintenance includes

What a service involves depends on the car, the engine and the mileage: each step of the service schedule has its own list of work. It usually includes:

Oil and filters

We change the engine oil and oil filter, the air filter and the cabin filter, and the fuel filter when the schedule calls for it. We choose the oil by approval and viscosity, just as for an oil change.

Spark plugs

On petrol engines, we replace the spark plugs at the interval set by the manufacturer.

Brake fluid and coolant

We change the brake fluid on schedule — usually by time, not only by mileage — and the coolant at the manufacturer’s interval.

Timing belt or chain

When the schedule says it is due — by mileage or age — we replace the timing belt or chain and the auxiliary belt. This is a separate job: timing belt and chain replacement.

Gearbox oil

If the service schedule includes a gearbox oil change, we change that too.

Fault codes and service indicator

We read the control unit fault codes during car diagnostics and reset the service indicator on the dashboard after the service.

Checks

What we check during a service

During the service we check the car’s main systems:

  • the brakes: pad and disc wear, brake hoses;
  • the suspension and steering: play, boots, shock absorbers;
  • the tyres and tyre pressures;
  • oil, coolant and fuel leaks;
  • the exhaust system;
  • the battery and charging system;
  • the lights and wipers;
  • fluid levels — topping up if needed.

If we find a fault, for example in the brakes or the suspension, we only repair it after you agree.

Service interval

How often to have your car serviced

The service interval is set by the manufacturer: by mileage or by time, whichever comes first. Even within one model, different engines can have different schedules.

Under severe operating conditions, many manufacturers shorten the interval. These include:

  • frequent short trips and city driving;
  • long periods of idling;
  • towing a trailer;
  • dusty roads.

A service is not the technical inspection

The technical inspection (ülevaatus) is the state roadworthiness test at an inspection centre; we do not carry it out. A service is scheduled maintenance to the manufacturer’s schedule.

    Before the technical inspection, you can have the car serviced and any faults found put right.

    How we work

    How a service works

    Service schedule

    From the VIN, the mileage and the date of the last service, we work out which jobs this step of the schedule requires.

    Service and check

    We carry out the agreed work, check the main systems and reset the service indicator.

    Questions and answers

    Frequently asked questions about car maintenance

    How much does a car service cost?

    It depends on the car, the engine and the step of the service schedule. Work is charged at an hourly rate; current prices are on the Prices page. We agree the list of work and the cost before we start.

    How often should a car be serviced?

    According to the manufacturer’s schedule: by mileage or by time, whichever comes first. With frequent short trips, city driving or towing, the interval is usually shorter.

    What is the difference between a service and the technical inspection?

    A service is scheduled maintenance to the manufacturer’s schedule: changing the oil, filters and other consumables and checking the main systems. The technical inspection (ülevaatus) is the state test at an inspection centre; we do not carry it out.

    Do you stamp the service book?

    No. Ariol Auto is an independent car service, not an official dealer, so we do not stamp the service book.

    Do you service minibuses too?

    Yes, we service cars and minibuses of all makes.

    How do I book a service?
